The diamond wire saw cutting machine is utilized for extracting marble and dimensional stones. This study seeks to enhance cutting efficiency and cost-effectiveness in marble extraction through controlled field experiments with fixed and variable-speed saws. Key factors influencing performance include the peripheral speed of the wire, applied thrust, water flow rate, and the type of bench cuts, measured in terms of cutting rate and diamond bead wear. Optimal water flow is crucial to prevent overheating and aquaplaning, while ideal peripheral speeds were determined for varying marble hardness. The research found that both cutting rate and bead wear increase with higher speeds and thrust, with multivariate regression models predicting performance based on shear strength and operational parameters. Additionally, the study examined how bench cut size and cutting styles affect machine efficiency, highlighting the relationship between cutting rate and bead wear during operations while considering stress concentration at the rock-tool interface.
